Speaker
Richard Lucy BVSc MANZCVSc (Radiology) Cert VC Dip VCS
Massey University graduate 1992, worked in private practice in New Zealand and then returned to Massey as an Assistant Lecturer in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care for 2.5 years. Whilst at Massey completed MANZVSc examination in Radiology before embarking on OE to the UK. Worked in private practice in London for 2.5 years before returning to New Zealand the slow way - travelling overland through West Africa and working as a volunteer in a primate rehabilitation centre in Cameroon treating injured primates before their return to the wild. Worked as a Senior Medical Registrar for 2 years at Sydney University Veterinary Hospital completing a Dip VCS and returned for a sabbatical to The Royal Veterinary College in London to complete the Royal College examinations in Veterinary Cardiology. Finally returned to New Zealand working in Auckland and Hamilton for several years before retraining in human Echocardiography (completing the ASUM DMU Echo training program) and then moving full circle back to Christchurch to work in the Cardiology Department of Christchurch Public Hospital. Having since returned to my original vocation, I am based at McMaster & Heap Vet Practice in Christchurch, performing primarily referral outpatient echocardiography and abdominal ultrasonography (and musculoskeletal and ocular ultrasound, endoscopy and CT). This includes interventional procedures and minimally invasive biopsy techniques. I also offer tailored inhouse ultrasound training for vet practices around the country. In my (limited) spare time, I entertain our nine year old twins, slave away on our lifestyle block and enjoy the rivers, mountains and coast that Canterbury and the South Island has to offer.
