Lifestyle Block Medicine

An overview of handling, management and examination of common lifestyle block species including goats, pigs, and camelids.

There are increasing number of lifestyle block properties purchased each year, which are often associated with clients that range from a few beef animals for the freezer, to registered flocks of Heritage breed sheep, to pet sheep and goats, and more. There is a large opportunity for veterinary involvement in routine husbandry and preventative care of animals on lifestyle blocks, such nutritional recommendations, parasite management, and lameness. This short course provides some information on basic handling and routine procedures, some common health problems identified on lifestyle blocks, and development of animal health plans.
